About
Jackie Feke comes to Stanford from the University of Toronto, where she received her Ph.D. in the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology. Her research analyzes the philosophy and rhetoric of ancient Greek mathematicians and natural philosophers. In her dissertation, she examined the relationships between physics, mathematics, and theology in the texts of Claudius Ptolemy, the second-century mathematician, and she situated his philosophy within the Middle Platonic and Aristotelian commentary traditions.
Jackie has chapters on Ptolemy in the Cambridge History of Philosophy in Late Antiquity (2010) and the forthcoming Dictionnaire des philosophes antiques, vol. 5.
Currently, Jackie is working on her book project: Ethical Mathematics: Ptolemy on the Relationships between Physics, Mathematics, and Theology.
